In short, from May through October, Antalya is great for sailing, swimming, and suntanning! This is the high season and excellent sunny weather can be guaranteed. That's mostly what you need to know, but for those of you who like to be more specific, here's some detailed information:
A southerly sea breeze system becomes evident at Antalya during May. A northerly land breeze develops after midnight. Temperatures begin to show significant warming by the end of the season, but by March temperatures can be relatively cool. The average temperature during March is a moderate 13 deg C (55.4 F) By May, the average temperature increases to 21 deg C (69 F), with the maximum temperature recorded during May being a very warm 38.7 deg C (101.7 F)!
Rain is common during spring, but occurs with decreasing frequency as the season progresses. Rain occurs on an average of 9 days in March, but only 5 days in May. Severe thunderstorms may occur during spring over and near Antalya. Precautions should be taken to prepare for wind gusts and heavy rain accompanying such storms. Thunderstorms can be expected on about eight days during this season. Fog is not common.
Antalya experiences typical Mediterranean weather during the summer season. Strong winds are at their minimum during June, July, and August. A southerly sea breeze is evident during summer. A northerly land breeze develops after midnight. The average temperature during July is 29 deg C (84.2 F), the warmest month of the year. A record maximum temperature of 43.8 deg C (111.0 F) was recorded in August. Temperatures of 30 deg C (86.0 F) or warmer can be expected during July and August, Rainfall is at its yearly minimum during July, August and September. Fog is uncommon.
The short transitional autumn season sees a rapid return to the winter pattern of transient low pressure systems. The storm track returns from northern Europe to southern Europe and the Mediterranean Basin. The sea breeze system seen during summer prevails early in October, but is actually gone by the end of the month.
Temperatures begin to decrease from the warm days of summer, with a temperature of 20.2 deg C (68.5 F) being the average for the month. Temperatures as warm as 38.7 deg C (101.7 F) and as cool as 6.3 deg C (43.5 F) have been recorded during October. Only an average of 3 days of the month will see temperatures of 30 deg C (86.0 F) or warmer recorded.
Rainfall becomes more common, with an average of 6 days recording precipitation during the month. Severe thunderstorms occur during October over and near Antalya. Precautions should be taken to prepare for wind gusts and heavy rain. Fog is not common.
A west to southwest wind is common in winter. Strong northerly winds are also observed during winter at Antalya but because of the limited fetch they do not cause hazardous wave conditions. The winds are dry and cold, and are intensified because they are channeled by the terrain north of the port. Historical data shows that the prevailing wind direction at Antalya during winter is northwest.
According to a 45-year period of record, winters at Antalya are moderate, with the average winter temperature ranging from a low of 10.1 deg C (50.2 F) in January, to 15.6 deg C (60.1 F) in November. Maximum temperatures as high as 32.7 deg C (90.9 F) have been observed in November, and 23.8 deg C (75.0 F) in January. Winter is the rainiest season of the year at Antalya. Based on a 41-year period of record, December and January experience an average of 13.2 and 13.5 days with rain, respectively. No snowfall was observed during a 15-year period of record. Fog is not a significant problem at Antalya during the season. Winter averages only 1 day with fog during the entire four month season.
